Ironwork is a branch of blacksmithing, and not all blacksmiths are necessarily ironworkers. It involves forging materials to create harmony. Ironwork allows one to create simple or striking lines from a cold material: steel. Wrought iron should not be confused with twisted iron. Artistic ironwork requires specific techniques, mastery of the forge and fire, as well as an understanding of volume and design.
