Presentation
During the internship you will discover the working environment of a woodturning workshop where everything is done manually (no automatic lathe).
The session begins with a presentation of the workshop (machines, cutting tools, general principles of lathe work). Then, you will discover different types of wood, their characteristics, and how to work them on the lathe depending on the grain direction and the desired object.
You will be working on beech wood to perform basic woodturning exercises:
Rounding, calibration, profiling: torus, ogee, chamfer, application to the creation of a honey dipper or other small object.
Throughout the workshop, you will receive explanations about the woodturning trade, woods, workshop organization, equipment selection, and sharpening.
