Presentation

During the internship you will discover the working environment of a woodturning workshop where everything is done manually (no automatic lathe).

The session begins with a presentation of the workshop (machines, cutting tools, general principles of lathe work).
Next, you will discover different types of wood, their characteristics and how to work them on the lathe depending on the grain and the object you want to obtain.

You will work on a beechwood disc into which you will inlay a darker wood (walnut) representing the cardinal directions to create a wall clock. The successive stages of the work are: cutting the wood, rounding it, profiling, preparing a chuck, hollowing, texturing, sanding, finishing, and assembling the mechanism.
Throughout the workshop, you will receive explanations about the woodturning trade, woods, the making of different objects, equipment, sharpening, and the organization of the workshop.
