Museum Overview

As you wander through the streets and past the monuments, you will discover figures who have had a national destiny, such as an inventor, a cardinal who crowned Anne of Brittany, a president of the Senate, a thaumaturge, a billionaire, a great Resistance fighter...

This guided tour, taking you through the streets, squares, and monuments, evokes figures from the town who have had exceptional national destinies. These individuals may have been born, lived, or died in L'Arbresle.

These include Claude Terrasse, composer of comic operas and operettas of the Belle Epoque, Barthélémy Thimonnier, the inventor of the sewing machine, Pierre-Marie Durand, the billionaire who made his fortune in electricity, André Lassagne, the Great Resistance fighter, one of Jean Moulin's right-hand men, Agnès Capri, the creator of the café-theatre concept, the thaumaturge Maître Philippe, the most famous, friend of the imperial couple of Russia, Antonin Dubost, president of the Senate during the war of 14... and many others.

But are you familiar with Cardinal d'Epinay, Marshal de Crevecoeur, or Hugues Jossard, the industrialist, all three of whom lived in the 15th century and have ties to the town? Have you heard of Françoise Corrèze, a resistance fighter and writer born in L'Arbresle, Claude Pelletier, a member of parliament during the Second Republic and a writer, Michel Lapendery, a sculptor, Jean Chorel, a sculptor, or Antoine Pagneux, an Argentinian painter from L'Arbresle?
