Presentation

The guided tour will take you through the stages of the laundry cycle, the evolution of artisanal laundry from washing clothes on the edge of flatbeds to the use of American drums and finally, the rise of domestic washing machines.

Between town and country, this site museum unfolds over nearly one hectare of greenery. It houses a fully renovated 19th-century farmhouse and a modern building dedicated to laundry services, as they developed in many towns in the West of Lyon during the 19th and 20th centuries.
In 2021, all the scenographic routes and exhibitions were redesigned to provide greater clarity to the historical, heritage, and societal themes of this site. In a bright atmosphere, featuring contemporary and luminous furnishings, visitors are invited to discover the laundry cycle within the context of the diversified activities of farmers on the Lyon plateau, from its collection in the city of Lyon to the various stages of washing, drying, and ironing.
