Everyone knows Géricault's painting, but who knows its story?
In The Secrets of the Medusa, an actor takes hold of the Raft, using it as the starting point for an intimate and historical investigation. He reinterprets the entire story from a 180° angle.
Facing the audience, he summons, in turn, the survivors, the officers, the shipwrecked, the painter, the witnesses, and his own voice, weaving a parallel between the tragedy of the 1816 shipwreck and our contemporary failings. As the artwork comes to life through words and movement, the stage transforms into a ship, the light into a raging sea: the canvas animates, and the audience finds itself swept up in the heart of the drama. The performance explores everything: survival, abandonment, the fragile hope glimpsed on the horizon. Between documented narrative and sensitive embodiment, it questions what the painting reveals: human distress, but also the life force.
A vibrant confrontation between art, history and theatre.
