OTML - Cécile CordatGonnard House
Millery
Come and discover the Gonnard house, built at the end of the 17th century and fully restored by volunteers: antique paintings, wall and ceiling treatments, woodwork. Advice and discussions available. It was the home of the Chalamel notaries from 1702 to 1803.
Millery is one of the two villages of the former barony of Montagny. At the end of the 16th century, following the Wars of Religion, the Montagny fortress became unusable, and the lordly family settled in Millery (where the castle remains). In this bustling and populated village, several notaries established themselves, notably the Chalamel family, who, during the reign of Louis XIV, built a house in a new area below the church (dating from the 15th century and later): the Maison Gonnard, which is still undergoing restoration today.
At the end of the 19th century, the house, having become the property of the Gonnard family, who were established in North Africa for business, fell into disuse... It escaped modernization. The last owner lived to be 100 years old, less one month! She bequeathed her house, a witness to a bygone era, so that our association could bring it back to life and share its history.
