riverie
In 10 stations, visitors can independently explore the village classified as a "Small Town of Character". Located on a rocky spur at an altitude of 730 meters, Riverie overlooks the Mornant plateau, halfway between Lyon and Saint-Etienne.
Today, Riverie is one of the smallest communes in France, covering 42 hectares. In the Middle Ages, it was the fief of a powerful barony. The town's strategic position allowed it to protect the strait connecting the southern part of the Lyonnais region with the mountainous plateaus of the Forez.
As you wander through the old streets, you will discover its must-see places:
- The castle district.
- The Saint Paul church is disoriented (oriented to the West).
- The castle terrace and the overall view of the village.
- The preserved rampart walk and its orientation table offering a panorama of the Jura mountain range, the Alps and the Pilat massif.
The audio-guided tour is available free of charge on your smartphone by downloading a QR code app. Using this app, you can then scan the QR codes displayed on plaques throughout the village and listen to the audio commentary.
