Presentation
Come and discover Roman Seasons, the museum's new temporary exhibition, organized in partnership with the National Archaeology Museum – National Estate of Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
The Mosaic of the Seasons
Dating from the 3rd century, the mosaic depicts agricultural activities or rituals grouped around personifications of the four seasons.
Discovered at the archaeological site of Saint-Romain-en-Gal in October 1890, it was acquired by the Louvre Museum in 1892. Kept at the National Archaeology Museum since 1935, it underwent major restoration by the mosaic and painted plaster restoration workshop of the Saint-Romain-en-Gal Museum in 2022 and 2023.
A group of experts was tasked with studying this pavement to provide a new interpretation. This mosaic is being presented for the first time at its discovery site through a unique display.
