Presentation

Come and discover the many remains of this incredible 70 km long structure that brought water to Lyon. A specific presentation of the visible and hidden remains in the town of Montromant will be given. Please wear comfortable shoes.

Founded in 43 BC, and becoming the capital of the Three Gauls less than thirty years later under the reign of Augustus, the city of Lugdunum quickly found itself needing to seek out the water necessary for its development in the hinterland.
To achieve this, four aqueducts were built: the Mont d'Or, Yzeron, Brévenne and Gier aqueducts. With over two hundred kilometers of pipes, it is one of the largest urban water supply networks in the world.

A guided walk, lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes, conducted by members of the association l'Araire.
