This guided tour retraces the history of famous figures linked to L'Arbresle, such as Claude Terrasse, Barthélémy Thimonnier, Lassagne, Agnès Capri, or Maitre Philippe, but also lesser-known figures like Françoise Corrèze or Cardinal d'Epinay.
This guided tour, created by the Friends of Old Arbresle and the Arbresle Region, evokes, as you wander through the streets, squares and monuments, local figures who have had a national or regional destiny.
These people may have been born, lived, or died in L'Arbresle.
These include Claude Terrasse, composer of comic operas and operettas; Barthélémy Thimonnier, the inventor of the sewing machine; Pierre Marie Durand, the billionaire who made his fortune in electricity and whose family originated from Bully; André Lassagne, the great Resistance fighter; Agnès Capri, the creator of the café-theatre concept; and finally, the thaumaturge Master Philippe, the most famous, a friend of the Russian imperial couple…
But are you familiar with Cardinal d'Épinay, Marshal de Crévecoeur, or Hugues Jossard the industrialist, all three of whom lived in the 15th century and have ties to the town? Have you heard of Françoise Corrèze, a resistance fighter and writer born in L'Arbresle, Claude Pelletier, a member of parliament during the Second Republic and a writer, Michel Lapendery, a sculptor, Jean Chorel, a sculptor, or Antoine Pagneux, an Argentinian painter from L'Arbresle?
