Presentation

Storytelling tour: From its formation 175 million years ago to the present day, the journey of a golden stone shaped by nature and the hands of Man.

Wandering through the site, visitors follow the history of the yellow stone through historical and technical stages. A melody serves as a transition between eras. Description is the watchword of this visit: description of the landscapes at the time of the geological formation, description of the stonemasons' actions, their tools, their clothing, the evolution of the quarry face over time, the landslides, the main buildings constructed with this stone, the landscapes shaped by the yellow stone, the abandonment of the heritage and then its revival in recent years, and the advent of tourism in the Beaujolais des Pierres Dorées (Golden Stone Beaujolais).
Topics covered :
• The geological formation of Beaujolais in general and of crinoid limestone in particular.
• The diversity of jobs within the career, the techniques and tools used.
• The history of the site and the difficulties encountered by the quarrymen.
• The site's iconic quarries.
