The "Geopark" label is not insignificant. Awarded by UNESCO in 2018 , in collaboration with the Global Geoparks Network , it recognizes a territory's exceptional geological heritage . This distinction highlights the richness and value of a territory's geological sites and commits them to a sustainable and responsible approach to their development.

From the Massif Central to the Azergues Valley, passing through the Saône Valley , the soils of Beaujolais have undergone spectacular transformations over the centuries, giving rise to one of the most complex geologies in France . The incredible diversity of the region's wines is a testament to this! A single grape variety, Gamay, but 12 distinct Appellations d'Origine Contrôlées (AOCs), all resulting from the richness and variety of the terroirs.

A true gem of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the Beaujolais Geopark attracts numerous visitors each year who come to discover its spectacular landscapes and unique heritage . This designation has helped to strengthen Beaujolais' reputation on the international tourism scene.

Beyond its touristic appeal, the Beaujolais Geopark plays a crucial role in environmental preservation . By raising public awareness of the fragility of its geological resources and encouraging sustainable practices , the Geopark helps protect this exceptional territory for future generations.

Today, there are 30 geosites.
