Rooms-Arbuissonnas-en-Beaujolais
A 12th-century cloister made of golden stones, Benedictine monks, canonesses-countesses… A magnificent site and a fascinating history to discover or rediscover.
Founded in the 10th century under the authority of the Abbot of Cluny on the lands of the Lords of Beaujeu, the village of Salles experienced a true boom in 1301 with the arrival of the Benedictine nuns, who were elevated to the rank of Canonesses Countesses in the 18th century. Between religious and secular life, these women of the high nobility left an undeniable mark of their presence.
A jewel of the Beaujolais region, currently undergoing classification as a protected geosites, the Priory is among the most prestigious sites in Beaujolais. It alone represents 1000 years of architecture and allows visitors to appreciate the skill and ingenuity of stonemasons.
Through its permanent exhibition, the Priory Museum offers a journey through time and the arts. Whether you're a passionate art enthusiast, a family, or simply curious, this museum has something for everyone.
