Presentation
Spanning 140 hectares, the Carrière du Pré de Joux site illustrates the encounter between resource exploitation and biodiversity preservation.
Among them, 73 hectares are dedicated to natural environments, including 37 hectares representative of the landscapes of the Val de Saône. Wet meadows, riparian forests, hedges, bodies of water and shallow areas form a rich ecosystem, hosting a varied and emblematic fauna, including numerous bird species.
Every year, the Vicat Granular Company invites the public to discover the quarry through a unique experience: "The Story of a Grain of Sand." Aboard a boat, equipped with binoculars, visitors observe aquatic and birdlife. The captain also shares his professional experience and reveals the rich local river heritage.
