As one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, Oingt stands out for its brilliant golden appearance, directly linked to the nature of the stone that makes up its walls: crinoidal limestone (locally called golden stone).

This village with its medieval streets is strategically located on a ridge and its silhouette stands out proudly in the landscapes of southern Beaujolais.
In addition to its remarkable built heritage, Oingt is characterized by its landscape setting, dictated by the local geology.

The dominant limestone context is felt both in agricultural and wine-growing areas and in natural environments where a
specific biodiversity.

Thus, in the hills above Oingt, the suggested route invites you to walk along the Remont and Bansillon ridges, classified as a Sensitive Natural Area for their heathland, coppice, meadows, and dry grasslands on limestone soils. It is not uncommon to encounter a rich calcicolous flora there, including several species of orchids that are rare in the Rhône department.
