Museum Overview
The working-class neighborhood of Quartier Déchelette is a rare witness to the region's industrial textile past.
A geosite in the Beaujolais region, a UNESCO Global Geopark
Built from local stone (microgranite), it forms an original architectural ensemble from the industrial era, where a veritable small town within a town once grew up. This textile tradition, inherited since the late Middle Ages with the cultivation and processing of hemp, is still deeply rooted in the landscapes, buildings, and layout of the industrial towns of the Beaujolais Vert region. The area's geological context results in high-quality river water, very clear and with few impurities. This fresh water, highly beneficial for textile processing, fostered the development of the textile industry along the Reins River at the end of the 19th century.
