Nestled on the slopes of Pipet Hill, this iconic monument testifies to the importance of Vienne in Roman times. With its original capacity of approximately 13,000 spectators, It was the second largest theatre in Gaul after that of Autun. and was among the largest in the Roman Empire.
An imposing architecture
The theatre is shaped like a semicircle, built against the steep slopes of the hill. Its tiers of seats rest on... vaulted galleries which serve both as a support and a path for the movement of spectators.
