An architectural feat in the open air

The Gier aqueduct its function was tosupplying Lugdunum, present-day Lyon, drinking water, from the sources of the Gier near Saint-Chamond. A unique site listed as a Historical Monument

The Plat de l'Air site was featured in the first list of Historical Monuments proposed by Prosper MERIMEE in 1840.  The Plat de l'Air site is now recognized as Historical MonumentThe reservoir, siphon, and arches have been protected since 1900 and 1991, and the entire site is listed to preserve this a unique testament to Roman ingenuity.
