This game, based on a geocaching concept, allows you to (re)discover the territory in a fun way and get off the beaten track to visit the natural, historical and unusual sites of the Rhône in a different way.

The Gnolus: Explore, play, collect!

The Gnolus are wacky creatures with convoluted origins that have invaded the territory. The mission of the players, known as "The Gnolus Hunters," is to capture all the Gnolus and return them to the still where they were created!

Equipped with a smartphone and the free mobile app "Les Gnolus," the Gnolus hunters set off on a walk to discover the hidden gems of our region. Throughout the walk, they will encounter riddles posed by Les Gnolus to solve.

14 Gnolus have been created to date and each of them has a theme representative of our territory: terroir, history, tales and legends, nature, know-how…

At the end of each course, a treasure is to be found with a collectible badge.

The Gnolus, a collaborative project across the department

This project was launched in 2019 in the Monts du Lyonnais. Since 2022, the Gnolus project has expanded across the entire Rhône department.

Rhône Tourisme is now leading the project in partnership with the tourist offices and inter-municipal authorities of the Rhône department. A development committee has been created and is responsible for the smooth operation and development of the game throughout the region.

Today, more than 50,000 Gnolus hunters have joined the adventure and are scouring the territory thanks to the 61 routes offered, of 1 and 7 km and available 7 days a week.

Are you a municipality and would like to propose a route within your territory?

Get in touch directly with your local tourist office or your local council (if you do not have a tourist office in your area) which will be your first point of contact to help you put together your application.

Setting up a Gnolus course is subject to a precise set of specifications with many criteria to be respected and requires significant involvement from the municipality for the proper functioning of the game.

Find the specifications to be met here: link to the application file. For any further information, you can contact Christelle Marmagne, in charge of Gnolus development: support@lesgnolus.fr
